4Complete the article about Central Park with a / anthe or  (= no article).

Central Park was 1 first specially made public park in 2 USA. 3 park was built between 1857 and 1873, right in 4 centre of 5 New York. Before that, the area was home to around 1,600 immigrants, mainly 6 Irish farmers, German gardeners and African Americans. 7 immigrants had to move, and their homes were destroyed to make space for 8 park.

The city held 9 competition to design the park. 10 competition was won by Calvert Vaux, 11 British architect, and his business partner, Frederick Law Olmsted.

Then the city employed 20,000 workers, mainly immigrants from Ireland and 12 Germany (perhaps the same people whose homes were destroyed), to plant trees in 13 new park. By 1865, there were more than seven million visitors a year. The Central Park zoo opened in 1864, with 14 animals from all over 15 world.

Nowadays, 16 New Yorkers are not the only people who enjoy the park. It receives about 35 million visitors from outside the city every year and is 17 important tourist attraction.
