Last year I spent a month very necessarilyhappily in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. I stayed with a Bulgarian couple in their flat near the city centre. HelpfullyUnfortunately they didn't speak much English, but quicklyluckily, their daughter was home from university and her English was very good. She and I easilyquickly became friends and she fortunatelyhelpfully told me where to go sightseeing. The bus system in Sofia is surprisinglyunfortunately good, and I got around the city very happilyeasily. Staying with a family is not necessarilyluckily better than staying in a hotel, but it's certainly more interesting. I'm even thinking of going back again next year.
