Write a short note and a notice.

 

Tasks

 

1 A friend has invited you out for a pizza but later you look in your diary and realise you can’t go. Write her a note.

  • Say you are sorry you can’t go.
  • Explain why.
  • Suggest another time/day.
  • Remind her that you want to borrow her English dictionary.

 

2 You found a mobile phone in one of the classrooms in your school/college. Write a notice to put on the noticeboard.

  • Describe the phone.
  • Say when you found it.
  • Say where you found it.
  • Explain how the owner can contact you.

 

Ideas: Who/What is each short text for? Are you writing to explain, apologise, give information, etc.

 

Plan: Follow the instructions.

1 Write the name of the person or the title at the top, but don’t include greetings.

2 Make sure the purpose of the text is clear. Keep it short. Use short sentences, imperatives and abbreviations.

 

Write: Write your note and notice.

 

Check: Check the following points:

  • Have you covered all the points in the task?
  • Have you used appropriate language, short sentences, imperatives and abbreviations.
  • Have you checked spelling, grammar and punctuation?

  1. 1 Write your task in another program (e.g. Word).
  2. 2 Save the file to your computer.
  3. 3 Upload your file.
  4. 4 If you want to add a note to your teacher, write it in the Comments box.
  5. 5 Select Submit to Dropbox to send your work to your teacher.
